France condemns in the strongest possible terms the attack on the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) that took place during the weekend of January 27-28, killing two peacekeepers – one Ghanaian and one Pakistani.

We offer our condolences to the deceased soldiers’ loved ones and to the Ghanaian and Pakistani authorities. Those responsible for this attack must be identified and held accountable.

France hails UNISFA’s efforts and reaffirms its full support for the work carried out by the UN force in Abyei.

Venezuela
Supreme Court decision (Jan. 30, 2024)

France expresses its concern following recent Supreme Court decisions upholding the ineligibility of several political figures.

France calls for the respect and full implementation of the Barbados Agreement on the Promotion of Political Rights and Electoral Guarantees signed on October 17, 2023, by the government and the Unitary Platform to ensure that the presidential elections scheduled for the second half of 2024 will be free and transparent. This agreement represents a major step toward ending the crisis, as President Nicolas Maduro noted on November 29.

France reiterates its willingness to work with the EU to create an international election observation mission, in accordance with the Barbados Agreement.
