Black History Month – The Harlem Hellfighters, African-American Fighters in French Uniforms

SUMMARY

As part of the Black History Month, the Consulate General of France in New York would like to pay tribute to 369th Infantry Regiment, better known as the Harlem Hellfighters, for their engagement in the French armed forces during the First World War. Some 4,500 Black American soldiers, victims of segregation laws in force in the U.S. military, fought in French uniforms to defend our democracy and our freedoms.
