SUMMARY

This sport strongly links French to American, as a vehicle for our shared values, such as fraternity and teamspirit. Every year, several players transfer between our two countries, such as newyorker Gail Marquis, one of the first American women to play in France for the Antibes basketball club in the 1970’s, or the player Wemby, selected in June 2023 as the NBA's number 1 draft pick!

Although basketball was born in πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ at the end of the 19th century, the oldest basketball court in the world – inaugurated in 1893 ! - can be found in Paris, at 14 rue de TrΓ©vise in the 9th arrondissement. To preserve this historic site, the YMCA Paris Association launched a fund-raising campaign and you can even adopt parts of the floor of the legendary gymnasium!
