France welcomes the ceasefire in eastern DRC (July 31, 2024)
France commends the meeting between the foreign ministers of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, at which they discussed the challenges related to peace and security in eastern DRC. The meeting was hosted by Angola as part of the Luanda Process.
France also commends the ceasefire agreed to by the parties, which begins on August 4, and urges them to abide by their commitments.
France applauds Angola for its mediation efforts and will continue to support the Luanda Process in order to move toward a diplomatic solution to the current crisis.
Inclusion of the Marquesas Islands on UNESCO’s World Heritage list (July 26, 2024)
France is delighted by the inclusion of Te Henua Enata – Marquesas Islands on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. This decision was announced at the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee, held in New Delhi, India.
Through its selection of the Marquesas Islands, the World Heritage Committee recognizes the exceptional universal value of this archipelago, where we find evidence of a civilization intimately linked to its unique geological and marine environment.
Its inclusion on the list sends a message of support for preserving the Pacific’s terrestrial and marine biodiversity and for recognizing the richness and diverse cultures of our overseas territories.
France applauds the dedication of the elected officials and government of French Polynesia and of the experts who worked so hard to gain this recognition.
France reaffirms its commitment to UNESCO’s mission of preserving our world’s heritage and to the 1972 World Heritage Convention.
