SUMMARY

In honor of Josephine Baker's Pantheonization on November 30, 2021, French street artist C215 transformed walls around St. Louis, Missouri, into celebrations of the legendary figure. As part of the celebration of Josephine Baker's induction into the Pantheon, French street artist Christian Guémy, known as C215, has created different portraits of Josephine Baker around St. Louis, Missouri, that represent her at different ages and from different parts of her life, from her life as an artist to her time as a resistance fighter. The portraits are painted on the walls of the Alliance Française de St-Louis, the Griot Museum of Black History, the Kranzberg Arts Foundation, and on various streets, including the Boulevard Josephine Baker. Check out the artist's process in the video above!
