In the 2021 spring, we presented the Legion of Honor to four American WWII veterans: - Earl H. Snypes (Black Mountain, NC) was an assistant gunner - light mortar crewman in the U.S. Army and participated in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe military campaigns - Dennis O. Trudeau (Grovetown, GA) was a paratrooper in the Canadian Army. During his service, he participated in the Normandy landings on D-Day and was subsequently held by Germans as a prisoner of war until May 1945. - E.D. Witherspoon (Gadsden, AL) was an armorer / gunner in the U.S. Army Air Force. In 1944, he was taken prisoner during one of his missions and thereafter, was one of the thousands of prisoners forced to cross the region on foot. He was liberated in Germany in 1945. - The late Henry Birnbrey (Atlanta, GA) was an intelligence specialist with the 30th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. During his service, he participated in the Normandy landings, the Battle of Mortain, the Battle of Saint-Lô, the Battle of the Bulge, etc. ??-?? Nearly 80 years after the end of World War II, we remember all those who risked their lives to liberate France and Europe. Thank you for your service!
