North Korea – Missile launches (July 25, 2023)

France utterly condemns North Korea’s July 25th launch of two ballistic missiles, in its latest violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

North Korea’s repeated provocations are contributing to rising tensions on the peninsula and in the region, and represent a threat to international peace and security.

France urges North Korea to comply with its international obligations without delay and to embark on a process leading to its complete, verifiable, irreversible renunciation of its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Together with its partners, France remains fully mobilized in its effort to ensure the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and encourages dialogue among all the parties.

Situation in Israel (July 24, 2023)

France is deeply committed to democratic principles, which have formed the basis of our friendship with Israel since it gained independence.

France, a friend of Israel, calls on the Israeli authorities to address every issue that is fundamental to the institutions of democratic countries in a spirit of consensus.

The Knesset’s July 24th adoption of a law restricting the prerogatives of the Supreme Court despite strong protests deviates from these principles.

Russia – LGBT+ rights (July 25, 2023)

Russia has banned gender reassignment surgery. This is yet another stage in the brutal repression of LGBT+ individuals, amid a general deterioration in fundamental rights and liberties. France condemns this dangerous escalation and expresses its total solidarity with LGBT+ people in Russia.
