Zambia – Passage of legislation to abolish the death penalty (Dec. 28, 2022)
France welcomes Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s December 23rd announcement that a law was approved amending the Zambian Penal Code and abolishing the death penalty.
France is resolutely committed to the universal abolition of the death penalty – an unjust, inhumane, ineffective punishment – and calls on all nations that still apply it to place it under a moratorium ahead of its ultimate abolition.
