Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna visits Washington, D.C.

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna traveled to Washington from October 20-21.

She met with her counterpart, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as well as Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry ahead of the opening of the COP 27.

During her visit, the discussions covered all aspects of the bilateral relationship, in particular with regard to our continued support of Ukraine. Iran, Lebanon, Haiti, the Sahel and the energy supply will also be discussed. A progress report was given on the implementation of the commitments made in the United States-France Joint Statement, which the two heads of state adopted in Rome on October 29, 2021.

Furthermore, this visit was part of the preparations being made for the French president’s state visit to the United States from December 1-2.

The minister also talked about transatlantic relations at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) before meeting with the staff of the French Embassy and the Consulate General in Washington.
