SUMMARY
On July 11, Ambassador of France to the U.S. Laurent Bili presented Ms. Dominique Lallement with the insignia of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters, one of the French government’s highest decorations established in 1957 to honor those who have made significant contributions to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world. Dominique Lallement is the President of The American Friends of Chartres since 2013. American Friends of Chartres has raised over $1.1 million since 2005, making it possible to fund three major restoration projects (the five lancets of the south portal; Bay 140 in the upper clerestory of the nave; and the statue-columns of the royal portal). It is involved in new projects as Chartres is preparing to celebrate its cathedral's millennium next year.
