60th birthday of INSERM

SUMMARY

On this second day, we had the honor of celebrating the 60th birthday of INSERM with a conference that dissected shared initiatives by France and the US pertaining to major themes of emerging infectious diseases, neurology and mental health and the intersection of environment, climate and health research. Attendees heard from INSERM CEO Didier Samuel and Michel Sadelain, who recently joined Columbia University, and witnessed the renewal of an Academic Cooperation Agreement with Columbia University and the signature of several International Joint Labs, a new international cooperation tool, with the University of Pittsburgh, the Université Laval and the University of Ottawa. The day concluded on a high note with the awarding of the 2024 INSERM International Award to Dr. Miriam Merad, in recognition of her research in cancer immunology and inflammatory diseases, as well as her commitment to Franco-American collaboration. Founded in 1964, IINSERM is a public scientific and technological institute which operates under the joint authority of the French Ministries of Health and Research. The institute is dedicated to biomedical research and human health, and is involved in the entire range of activities from the laboratory to the patient’s bedside.
